Twenty-two years of
measuring twice, installing once.
West Coast Windows is a family-owned window and door company built by a working glazier, still run by people who show up to the job themselves.
Founded 2004 in a rented Ballard garage. More than 2,300 installations later, still family-owned and still on the tools.
How it started
In 2004, Dan Mercer left a glazing crew in Renton with a used utility trailer, a set of hand tools, and eleven years of experience setting glass. He started West Coast Windows out of a rented garage in Ballard, taking on one replacement job at a time, mostly older craftsman homes with single-pane wood windows that fogged over every winter.
For the first three years it was Dan and one other installer, working out of that same trailer, learning which manufacturers actually stood behind their warranties and which ones did not. By 2009 the company had added its first full install crew and started offering patio and entry doors alongside windows. By 2014, ten years in, West Coast Windows had moved into the Harbor View Drive office and hit its 1,000th installation.
Dan still reviews every large project bid personally, and he still rides along on a handful of installs each month, mostly to keep himself honest about what the job actually takes. The company has grown to more than 2,300 installations across the Puget Sound, but the standard he set in that Ballard garage has not changed: quote it straight, order the right materials, and do not leave a house until the job is right.
Our crews are our employees.
Every installer who shows up at your house is a West Coast Windows employee, not a subcontractor hired for the day. That distinction matters more than most homeowners realize.
- Factory-trained. Our crews are certified by the manufacturers whose products they install, so warranty claims never come down to an installation dispute.
- Background-checked. Every employee who enters your home clears a background check before their first day on a crew.
- Accountable to us. If a job needs to be redone, it is our crew and our name on the truck, so we fix it, no finger-pointing at a third-party contractor.
What that looks like day to day.
Straight Quotes
We measure twice and quote once. If a job needs a change order once we open up a wall, you hear about it before we start work, not buried in a final invoice.
Built to Last
We recommend the window or door that fits your home and budget, not whatever earns the biggest commission. Sometimes that means the smaller order.
Show Up on Time
Your install date is the date we confirmed at your quote visit. If weather or a supplier delay changes that, we call you before you notice, not after.
Local, and it shows.
West Coast Windows sponsors a summer league soccer team in Ballard and partners with a South Sound trades high school program, hosting job-shadow days for students interested in glazing and construction. Every winter we donate window repairs for two households referred to us through a local weatherization nonprofit.
We are a small enough company that these are not marketing line items. They are things Dan and the office staff show up to in person.
